Christmas Day

A high of twenty five degrees that’s what the forecast say
And in the afternoon a soothing breeze a perfect Christmas Day
Most people dine outdoors today enjoy their food and beer
And they make the most of Christmas Day it comes but once a year.

The Australian Christmas different than Christmas I used to know
When fields with wind blown frost were gray and hill wore cap of snow
Our Christmas dinner we eat indoors outside the cold winds blew
And in Ireland on Christmas day no outdoor barbecue.

At Ferny Creek reserve the laughter ring as the families cricket play
The bowler bowls the batsman out and gives a mock hooray
In parks and reserves throughout the Land the kin and families meet
Some play cricket others football whilst others drink and eat.

On Christmas day I go to park and do as Aussies do
The snags and steaks are sizzling on the smoky barbecue
And I sit in the shade of the gums enjoying a cooling beer
But for brief spell my thoughts might stray for I’m a migrant here.
